Hi All,
Complete Newbe here. Had a Sony Cybershot and just got a Canon PowerShot SX 10 IS. It looks like it takes Great photos to me but I know nothing.
Looking for some critique
Thanks Kevin

The flower is partially covered by its own shadow and the lighting is a bit harsh. Maybe you could try a different composition or angle to get better detail from the flower and a less distracting background.

I am also new here and I welcome you to the forum :)

try upping the contrast to increase dynamic range. Levels is probably the easiest way if you have photoshop. Digital photo professional will also work well for this.

Thanks, I see the shadow now, I didn't before. In macro shooting is the idea to get as little background as possible?

Do I need contrast on both pics or just the flower?

Thanks for your help and the forum welcome!

If you wanted little background... my guess is you can just crop the picture in pp. Maybe this article can help you and give you an idea in macro shooting. I think you need contrast in both pictures :)
