Cute baby. I would put a black cloth on the shoulder of the perosn holding the baby and move the main light little higher and closer to the camera.

my first reaction was 'aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeee'
my second reaction is that it looks like the focus is on the pink sweater, and not on adorable little abby's eyes, and that's distracting to me

I thought the picture was a bit soft till you mentioned the sweater. Nonetheless it was a very good effort, maybe a little more pp can help :)

I'm liking this shot, lots of potential here to be great. Can you give some info on the off-camera lighting used and the settings.

we were actually trying to do another pose with her. mom was trying to calm her down. there was a AB800 with an umbrella 60" camera left. i don't recall the light settings but i'm guessing 1/2 to 1/4 ish.

besides sharping, what did you do? it almost looks like a bit of smoothing?
interesting edit.

I would like to see some selective sharpening and lightening around the eyes and with the original pose I think it would be good to see a bit more of mom -- maybe her hair or just the side of her face. The shoulder is a bit anonymous. Great subject, though.

it was just a combination of levels, high pass and USM

My only nit pick is the eyes not in focus.
