Manual Focus piece jiggles on 350D Kit Lens

Just checking to see whether or not this is normal. I just got a Digital Rebel (upgrade from G1) and I have a concern with the manual focus part of the kit lens. It wiggles rather easily, especially at telephoto. Sometimes, it's even causing an issue with AutoFocus. It wiggles enough on AutoFocus where my image jumps a bit, and it causes it to refocus. Somtimes, this can result in AutoFocus going in a 1 or 2 second loop where it is continually AutoFocusing because the end of the lens keeps jiggling.

Is this something everyone is seeing or does this sound like a problem? I do not remember having this problem in the store.

Unfortunately I don't think it's uncommon, my lens does it and so did the 28-90mm lens on had on my 300V. It seems to be quite a poor design but I guess that's what we get for US$100 nowadays. I recently changed over to the Tokina 19-35mm 3.5-4.5 and absolutely love it in comparison. On the other hand though the images I took with the kit lens were very good and at the end of the day it didn't really effect image quality but just felt extremely c**p :p
