Got my new lens yesterday, Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS and all I can say is WOW! This lens is all that they have said it is and more. I went out and took some shots to test it out and the shots I took even though I am a rookie makes my pictures look like an expert took them. I wanted to see how sharp it was at 2.8 and all I can say is I am glad that I boought it even though I have to eat beans and weenies for about 3 years now. hahahahaha Here is a small sample picture that I like.

Sweet. yup, those 70-200 L's will make you look at all your other lenses different. The build quality, optical quality is just outstanding.
Great Image, and I salute you on getting the 2.8 IS model.. I too will soon join you in eating beans if I purchase either this 300 F4 IS, or 400 F5.6 ..
ohh boy decisions.

Welcome to the dark side... I say dark side as I sit in the dog house, waiting for my wife to forget that I spent $3500 Australian Dollars on that lense :D:D:D:D:D:D
I don't regret it for a second :p

I have the f/4 version, does the tripod collar come off of the f/2.8 version so it's not in the way when you handhold it?

You can take it off or just rotat it to fit with your hand.

Yep, it comes off in a jiffy.. :)
When you take the battery grip off as well, its much smaller, and far less conspicious.

Now I am contemplating again. I have the f4 non IS version and been debating on selling it to help finance the 2.8 IS version but I just purchased the 400 5.6. I figured my next step is either the 500 f4 or 600. Maybe its best to save those funds toward one of these lens eh. Contemplating again.

Congrats on the 2.8. I have the F4 Non IS and am green w/envy. I'm drooling over 2.8, except the Mrs. says NO MORE $$$ on camera equipment. If only I can convince her...
