Hey guys i have an eos3000n which uses Canon EF lense with Canon EF mount.

I'll be making the purchase at jessops.co.uk as i have a contact there. I'd like to go at least 300mm and found 3 options. The thing is im clueless as to the specs :/

Here are my options: any advice?

Also, when i upgrade to an eos digital at a later stage... will these lenses be compattible? I am an amateur so the lens would be used for general purposes --nothing specific.

ta in advance!

All the EF lenses work with the 20D, and as far as I have read, with all the Canon DSLRs.

As for the lenses you list, I would suggest saving up your money and buying something with Image Stabilization for the longer end of the focus range. I have the 75-300 IS USM, which would be about 150 to 200 pounds more, but whenever I turn off the IS and I have it zoomed to 300, it is very difficult to hold it rock steady for any shots at shutter speeds slower than 1/300th. And all those lenses are fairly slow (f4-5.6, so at the 300mm end the widest you can open them up is 5.6) so you'll need slower shutter speeds often, such as on cloudy days.

I know that many people disparage the 75-300, and it certainly is slower to focus than my other lenses, and yes, it could be a bit sharper at 300mm, but I have gotten some fantastically clear and crisp shots with it at that range and am very happy with it. Especially when I look at the prices of better lenses in that range.

But I wouldn't buy a long lens without IS ever again, unless it were a prime rated at f2.8. Even then I'd need a monopod at least.
