What are the real benefits of the battery grip with vertical shutter release / wheel?

If you do a lot of vertical shots having the controls mounted vertically is a tremendous plus. Many folks also like the grip for balance with larger lenses.

This is for a D60, not the 20D which seems to have a problem with the part design / manufacture.

I find camera's to be a bit small in my hands, so the real benefit for me was the size. Now that I've been using my camera for roughly two days without the grip after using it for a month with it, I find that I actually did use the vertical grip a lot more than I thought i did.
