I am trying to work on the lighting in my living room.. i have no photography equipment, just my xsi and lens kit for now (external flash and other lenses coming soon!) so for now i am working without my flash in hopes to get good natural light shots.. prior to pp there was no brick hardly to her left, just a big baby gate leaning against the fireplace and there was a big babyproof lock onto her right on the fireplace itself.. also she's sick and had a huge booger nose so had to fix that.. just wondering what you all think as i've only had a camera for 4 days now and trying to get pics of my kids while they are playing.. She currently was jumping on a horse bouncy toy we have, but obviously does not feel well...
Another question which i am sure has been asked before! Why is it when i convert from Raw to jpeg in DPP does the picture open up really grainy in photoshop???? Is there a way to fix it or am i just going to have to live with the fact that jpeg isn't as clean???

The jpegs always look sharper in my pp. But in print, it won't be grainy. And the colors in your picture are too orange on my monitor. Can you tone that down? The eyes are beautiful, though.

Suzie! would you believe that i've gone back into PP 3x already to tone down the oranges!! In one program it won't look so orangey and then in the next it does! So, I actually have another version of this that isn't soo orange and another version where i changed the color of her shirt and pacifier as to not be so orange too...
That was a bright red/orangish hoodie and the bricks in the background do have a sorta orangish hue, so i am not sure what else to do? The one that i have that is even more toned down than this almost makes her face go white though.. but if its too orangy on your screen could there be something wrong with my monitor possibly as i've been told in the past that a picture was orangish and yet i saw no orange on my screen.. hmmmm?

wait wait wait!! I do my stuff on a laptop on my lap! I bet my angle of my monitor is off because when i tilt my monitor more or less it does look more orange!!! Does anyone know at what angle a laptop monitor is supposed to be at to see colors correctly.. i sit there and move it up and down and all it does is change it from really light/white to really dark/orange... hmmmmm How am i supposed to know whats right!?

I hate to ask, but can you convert to B&W, it may be better that way.

There is still too much red in it. Add some blue and see what you get.

to the black and white one? or to the 2nd one i posted... I think if i start over with my original RAW in DPP i'd probably get better results.. i tried that and worked with the white balance and histogram tool and the red came out with no problem.. the last 2 i worked off the JPEG that i had alread photoshopped out the wall and babylock and boogers.. but that wasn't too hard, so i could probably just start over and see what I get! Its definitely the angle of my laptop because now that i have it tilted back further her face almost looks red! i wish i would have known that was going on from the beginning, because i've been editing my pics at this tilt for awhile and i am noticing alot of them are looking too warm or reddened to make up for my laptop screen tilt... crazy!

Oh, when I pp B&W shots, I do it with a menu that adjusts the blacks that way. Anyway, the B&W one is better than the color ones. Calibrating the monitor is a must in PP.

I think you need to take more pictures. That is just so hard to PP almost.

Don't worry! i will, LOL All my pictures are just snapshots of my kids while they are playing.. and like i said i just got my first camera so i am having fun just trying to get pictures of the kids while they are playing and hope they turn out good! What do you think went wrong with this picture? Could it be the fact that i have a honey oak wood ceiling.. would that be shooting down the orangish hue??

She is adorable. I do agree the photo is to red. However you did a great job on getting rid of the baby gate and boogie. I hope you don't mind but a played with your photos a bit.
