hi guys im new to all this...

I can never get the combination right. e.g. i want to capture a busy street with neon-lit restaurants, riddled wth palm trees and cars flying past every 2 seconds.

I have included a pic that went wrong... this was actually the only legible one out of the lot.

I set the exposure/shutter speed to 5 seconds and take the shot using a tripod. this always ends up either too blurry or with too much light. What is the long shutter speeds, aperture and light ratio for these shots?

the more light the smaller i must have the aperture opening? or other way round... iv tried both without luck... dunno where im going wrong. sorry if this is a stupid question.

What ISO & f-stop? (There's a reason that the stickys ask for exif info ;-)
Looks like cam movement to me. Try using the self timer or a remote release. Maybe vibrations from traffic are an issue, too.
