So my friend has a Canon S5 and I have a Canon SD790IS. Both capture 640x480 video. Both use MJPEG compression. Yet when we upload our respective videos to youtube, Youtube allows his to be seen in full 640x480 goodness and mine are scaled to 320x240 garbageness. Any ideas? I tried transcoding mine to H264 but still, no High-Quality.
thanks,

the youtube player is now 16:9, so in both of your cases it would put bars on each side of the video.
but the frame size would still be affected by whatever frame size you uploaded, so it sounds like you gave it 320x240, while he gave it the full 640x480.
maybe try downloading the gspot codec utility, and see what the differences are between the two source files that were uploaded... it'll tell you the codec, bitrate, frame size, etc.

youtube need some time to show up "hq" or "hd" button bellow screen. Ideal format is codec h264 in mp4 format, 6mbits, 25-29.97-30fps. You need to configure under your youtube account, playback setup to : I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it's available.
