Hi,

I have recently switched to Canon from Olympus. I don't know very much about using flashes. I do have a Canon 580EX and I also have an Olympus FL-36.

Can I still use the Olympus flash with my Canon as a slave? Or should is it worthless to me?

Thanks,
Paul

With additional device such as a cell/optical slave trigger, you SHOULD still be able to use your Canon as slave. Which speedlite do you have? If it's 580EXII, you can get the optical trigger and connect using PC-to-PC sync cord. Else, you should be able to find hot-shoe optical slave trigger. Google it ...

Actually, it's similar to using a 3rd party flash. Now you canon becomes 3rd party, though you can't have features like e-ttl, you can definitely still use it as slave.

read it again, he said he swtiched to canon and wants to use his olympus flash as a slave.

You can put an optical trigger on the olympus but im not sure if it will trigger a lock up like they do on the canon speedlites

Whoopsy, OK, then a cell/optical trigger should do the job.

Does it have a Manual mode, or an Auto mode (with built in photosensor)?

With optical (or IR or radio) slave, the unit could be triggered. With Manual it would have a fixed output; with Auto it could set its own exposure level.
