I've got a Lexar USB 2.0 Multi Card-Reader on a WIN XP SP2. My 2 GB Lexar CF works fine but my 256 MB Lexar CF messes up my PC.

Both card works fine, read/write and even preview is OK when used in my camera. As soon as I put my 256 CF card in the USB-reader my XP goes "caploink" (insert proper sound-effect here) and all my USB-devices dissapears. No problems with my 2GB card though...?! To get the USB-devices back I have to un-plug and re-plug my reader.

Does anyone know if there is a 256 MB CF Lexar-deamon reported on-the-loose? Where's an authorized Lexar-exorcist? The 256 MB card has no real value to me but I'd like to transfer my images before I terminate him... or her...?

Just for kicks, this might be the time to try transferring direct from the camera to the PC . . .

It sounds like you're about to find out how good Lexar's warranty service is though . . .

Hi Jon - do I sense a kind of irony here? What's worth to know about Lexar's warrantys?

I know the direct from camera-solution but where's the cable now... :)

I have no idea what Lexar's warranty service is like. It was a straight, if wry, observation. I think your card is up for testing it.

IIRC Canon's now using standard cable connectors; see if a stock mini-4-pin Firewire cable will fit.

I've used SanDisk CF cards exclusively until recently when I bought a couple of Lexar cards (no SanDisk available) I've had great luck with SanDisk. Are Lexar cards a problem??? I'm tempted to stay away from them, if there's a problem with them.

By the way, if your XP acts like that when you put the card in, it sounds like it could fry your computer! That card is pretty obviously defective, I'd say. Scary stuff. See any smoke???

Lexar makes good cards, as long as your equipment can use them. As far as I know, Leaxar WMA technology is not utilized in Canon equipment so read/write times are slower than advertised if the CF's are utilized in Canon hardware.

I had a Lexar card fail on me for reasons unknown. Just in the middle of shooting I got the error that corresponds to a bad card (can't recall the error number).

I contacted my retailer and he took it back replaced it at no charge and it was slightly older than a year old. He said that Lexar would replace it for him.

I have a total of 5 Lexar cards and have had no problems other than this one, which could happen to any card. I have a couple of SanDisk cards as well and haven't had any problem with them.

No smoke, sorry! I don't think my PC is about to burst out in flames. Not sure though, but I think the card somehow is messed up filewise/directory. As mentioned it works fine in my camera and I'll test it on another CF-reader soon.
