I went to B&H today. In addition to buying a Lowepro Flipside 300, I also bought a few Tamron lens caps. I have to first confess that I am not a Canon shooter 8), but this forum is pretty much the best photography forum out there, so I always visit here (minus the hardware specific forums so I don't develop gear lust ).
I have the 17-50mm, and its lens cap is so much superior to all others that I've decided to replace the others with Tamron ones.
The worst is the Sigmas. I have a 10-20mm, and the cap is a PITA. It comes off so easily because of its low tension springs (or whatever is in there), and has come off in my bag a few times. My other lens caps aren't as bad as Sigma's, but the Tamron's are still much better. They have a very tactile and very secure feeling when handling them. Now I have Tamron caps on all my lenses, with the word Tamron on them. Kinda weird. I might use a piece of masking tape on the lens cap to indicate what lens each is, for times when they are in my bag.
Tamron lens caps rock! :D

A lot of us use the Tamron caps on our gear for the center finger clips.

Yep. I've gotten a few generic at Samys. Pretty reasonable.

The HK Canon pinch caps will be perfect for me. Just bought 2 from ebay. Thanks. Mike.
Can't see why Canon doesn't make these as OEM. So much easier to remove with hood in place.

The Tamron pinch caps are awesome. I replace all my Canon caps with them. However, the part you "pinch" is smooth plastic, and can be difficult to keep a (large) finger on, especially when using a lens with a long/large hood. Take a Dremel (or some sand paper) and rough those edges up to give you better grip!

Never thought about roughing up the "pinch" part of the caps, but that sounds like it will only improve things. I think I'll do that. Thanks for the idea!

The Canon one have larger finger holes and I like the idea that they say "Canon" on them. I suspect they're all made in China. But for the $2 that I spent on each at eBay, I'll buy more if they break.
