Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with using a 580EX on a 5D mk2?
what I am experiencing is that on occasion, the flash will constantly light for perhaps 1 second.
I'm unsure but it seemed to happen a few times when I pressed the picture review button on the back panel as i remember blasting a few people in the face!
I would also like to note that I have done the mod for an external PC sync port on my 580.
any ideas?
thanks.

Keep your hands off the DOF preview button (on the front of the camera, near the lens on the lower right as you look at it). That activates the flash modeling light.
Review the "modeling light" feature in the 580EX instruction manual.

Good point. thanks for pointing that out.
Since it was the first time i used the flash after doing the mod, and the first time I used it on the 5d mk2, I assumed something was amiss..
I'll test it some more :)

I double checked last night and it seems this was the problem i was having.
This has never happened to me on my 30D or 350D. It seems the 5D2 DOF preview button is a lot easier to depress!
Thanks Curtis.

You can set a CFn in the 580 to prevent the modelling light from firing when you press the DoF preview button, and move it to the "test" button instead.
