Yea Baby!! I got overnight shipping so it will be in my hands by 10:30AM tomorrow (life is good). I am going out of town this weekend so if weather permits I will be able to put it through its paces. Now I am going to download the manual and read it cover to cover.

The L lenses (24-70 I think) and 70-200 will do fine with the 1D MkII in the rain. while not completly water proof, it does very well in the rain. just make sure to dry it off good when done.
helluva camera, I love mine and cannot imagine not having it in my gear.

So, let's see.. you will get it on Friday to shoot on Saturday... it will be a long night reading the manual and getting used to the camera (been there... done that... not with a 1D... but still ... it was FUN!!!)
I was a bit tired the next day though :)

The 17-40 and 70-200 f/4 are NOT water resistant. They have no o-ring at the mount.

Normally when I order gear, I get the standard shipping to save a bit of money and then wait seemingly forever...but when you order a 1DMKII, the extra shipping is a drop in the bucket!
Congratulations and wish I had one.

I've also just ordered a 1DMkII and fingers crossed it should arrive by the weekend :D . I've also gone completely crazy and ordered the 24-70L & the 400 5.6L, they're on their way from B&H right now, I'm so excited I can't sleep, it's 3.30 am here as I type, madness!!
Can you if possible provide a link to the manual as I wouldn't mind downloading it also, thanks.
I took a look at your smugmug gallery, it's very good - do you mind if I use similar wording as your copyright statement on my gallery? I'd been wondering on how to word it and yours is spot on.
Have a great time with your new camera!

Be careful, if he wrote it himself he own's the copyright on his copyright notice. :-)

Definitely one of the most enjoyable parts of the camera.

Congratulations, and good luck with your new camera.
I know you're in a hurry to get started, but realize going into it that it will be a while until you can get everything possible out of your new machine. You might even find it frustrating at first if you are new to the EOS 1 series cameras since the 1DM2 has a steep learning curve. However, the good news is that if you take the time it is an awsome picture making machine. The longer I use it, the more I appreciate what the camera can really do.

click on the "Product/Software Manuals" link.
Feel free to model your copyright statement after mine. I made that one base on 2 or 3 others that I put together, it just changed over time.

My 17-40 has got a rubber skirt on the edge of the mount which makes it weatherproof...

Yeah, jbradc - shoot now while you have the chance. Water-resistant or not, you don't want to be outside with the flood warnings they have for us tonight and tomorrow!

It never fails, when I get a new lens or camera it rains for a week
Here is a shot of my baby with the 80 F1.8, taken with my 10D and 50 F1.4 & 550EX

The battery is charged and I took a couple of shots and WOW! This camera is rock solid and in Continous High (8.5 fps) it sounds like a high tech machine gun.
I will post some images after the weekend, if I can get a clear day to enjoy.

Not sure why you would prefer the 1VHS over the 1DMII, sure it has a bigger viewfinder and can do 10fps with th NP-E2 installed, but you are changing film all of the time, pretty much every few bursts at that speed.
With the 1DMII I can shoot at over 8 fps, and never have to stop until I have filled 4GB of card, or the equivalent of about 10 rolls of film shooting RAW. The 1DMII also has improved AI Servo and better control of your custom functions (I wish my 1VHS had a screen like the 1DMII).
In reality, shooting side by side they are effectively identical in terms of functionality and performance except for those issues raised above, so apart from the obvious (ie. you prefer film to digital capture, or you haven't tried or can't justify the cost of a 1DMII) I can't see any way it would be preferable.
Cheers,
Antony

If you notice my signature. I own a 1DMKII as well. Personally I like film better. I know exactly which film gives me what type of color and contrast. digital still takes too much "darkroom" time, at least for me.

Well, we can't overburden you, so just send it on to me. I'll even reimburse you for the shipping! Now is that an offer or what?
