I sent this image off to a friend of mine to show him. He then let me know that I needed to up my contrast, and brighten the image up a bit more. After doing so, and choosing a different filtering method, from the Raw file, I got the below results.

Before

After

Glad he pointed it out to me because sometimes I would be a bit scared to add to much contrast, and saturation. It's nice to have a helpful eye to notice a needed image correction for you ..

Goes to show ... you learn something new everyday ...

Also I never complained about the camera, but this is a perfect example where it is the photographers fault, and not the camera/image device.

Much better...

Sorry but IMO hes done it to much

The contrast is way to high, making the shot lose the detail of the bird(i.e the black on its head,is just a black blob now:confused: ).

I'll have a play with the first pic and see what i can do for you.

I'll be back ;)

Here you go.This is what i would want your pic to look like if it was mine(nice shot by the way  ).

As you can see,i got the colour looking better and got rid of that bright look that was on the 1st pic.Plus kept all the detail on the bird.

Hope you did'nt mind ?

Hope you didn't mind.
I adjusted the White balance. Then uped the saturation a bit. Then just a tad of USM.

Thanks CurtPick.
I don't mind the editing. I like the version you just did here. The area around the beak, and eyes is much sharper.
How much USM did you add to the image.
Now that I think about it, I totally forgot to adjust the whitebalance in the Raw image.

thank you for editing it for me. What did you do to get the color looking better?

I am going to try, and edit the image again, and see what results I can get. I would like to at least get it close to looking like both the sample images here.

btw: I don't mind re-editing of my images..
I am pretty cool about things like that.
Thanks again.

I find the second photo doesn't look as natural as the first, I actually perfer the first photo.

To be honest, I fully understand what you mean.

I always start at what Canons white paper on the subject says to start at.
I use a base of 300 pixels, .6 radius, and 0 threshold in photoshop and adjust from there. Since your picture was small I decreased the radius to .4 and bumped the threshold to 1.

I only bumped saturation of Red 1 after adjusting the white balance.

The white balance was the biggest problem.

CurtPick . . . that is a excellent job. Thanks for you time on this and you help. I think it will go further than perhaps you know.

The robin was a good shot as well . . .
