So my brother inlaw is shipping me his 15 inch macbook 2.0Gz as its now two years old and out of warrenty and is having this issue.

He feel asleep while doing his work and woke up in the morning to find his mac completely dead, so he plugged it in and went to turn it on to print his work and he got only a black screen.

Tried rebooting several times, removing the battery.. The unit is turning on just going to a black screen.

He put his restore DVD in OS Tiger and the computer booted fine into the restore however its not detecting his drive to install to.

Thus the reason he is shipping it to me, i expect it today and my plan is to pull the drive and hook it up to my mac and see if i can read it and pull the files of it.

Question is, I have replaced many drives in Pc's and Laptops but never a Macbook, Does it require a specific drive? And like the PC side of things is it possible just the partition got screwed up and the drive is fine? Or does it sound like a dead drive?

Thanks,

Actually swapped out the drive yesterday with a 250gig Seagate drive. Worked like a charm.

Be glad you didn't have a Macbook Pro. It was like surgery taking mine apart.

The ifixit site has pretty good disassembly instructions.
