Guys,
Can someone give me a web site, or a book on how to clean your dSLR's sensors and inside? I used one of those camera pens, because I guess the one time they needed to put one of those lovely safety cautions on the package "DO NOT USE INSIDE CAMERA", they didn't so I didn't know.
And guys, I know I did something grave in your eyes, forgive me. And aid this brother in need.
Much thank yous,
Chad.

A search here on "Clean sensor" brings up a whole lot of discussion, including this link (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=62349&highlight=clean+sensor) which goes into techniques. There are only another 300-some similar threads, which should be enough to write a book about it even if it isn't a book.

Try going to the above site and look under support for your model - the answer should be in the FAQ section under "cleaning sensors".

I did take some shots and although there is black in the viewfinder, I can't seem to find any blots on the images. So does that mean the sensors okay?

Giotto Rocket Blowers (about $10 on Amazon.com) are said to work well. I should be getting mine within the next day or so. Also, check out this website. It has pretty decent information.

Chad,
I've got a 1D and have had mysterious specs show up in images. I used one of those photo brushes, used it ever so lightly across the CCD. I also sucked all the saliva out of my mouth and blew into the insides. One of those actions got rid of the specs.
You definitely don't want to get any moisture on the CCD. I took the camera to a photo store and a guy, a well known photographer of snow boarders and skiiers, did the same thing with a brush. The key is just not to press hard, but lightly to (hopefully) dislodge any particles.
What I can't understand about lenses, however, is how dust particles get up into the lenses that can be seen but not removed. Evidently, they don't show up in photos.

I've had good success so far with a simple Giottos Rocket Blower. This is a blower that you just squeeze to generate a burst of air, not a compressed air blower which you should also never use on your sensor.
I like the "auto-levels" test. Take a shot of the clear blue sky at f/22, load the image into photoshop and do auto-levels.
Here was mine a month ago before cleaning:

Here it is again after half a dozen shots with the Giottos Rocket Blower.

If that doesn't do it, the Copperhill method is next, but I've yet to work up the courage to do it even though I bought the swabs and pec pads. Here's a web page on pbase that shows exactly how to do the sensor swab cleaning:

Chad..
I just had the similar black specs in the viewfinder. i found that the blower wasn't enough to get it off cos the viewfinder lens/glass is actually a little matt??? (not sure if thats the right word). I just used some cotton buds to wipe the viewfinder lens (not the CCD but the little white thing on the top side of the camera. then used a blower to get rid of the little cottony things left behind...no more black specs..
what i did could be wrong or whatever but i have only had it 1 day so you had better get confirmation from people who have had their camera longer.
