Going to D.C.

I am going to Washington D.C. in March for 2 full days. I have a hotel outside of town but on the Metro line. I'm just looking for suggestions and things to watch out for. My sig is current with the gear that I have, and it will be split up between me and one other. Thanks for the help!

If it's the first part of March - your best bet is the architecture. The memorials are gorgeous at night - bring your tripod. I would think your 24-70 would be the most used lens - although I would try to find something wider. Maybe even wder than your 17-85. Got a friend with a 10-22?

If you're going late in March you may have some nice cherry blossoms - but try to avoid the festival (I think it starts March 28). It brings TONS of people and turns the area into a carnival atmosphere. Fun for some, but tends to over-run the place.

Bring a VERY generic looking bag for your gear. Most of my shooting is at twilight and returning from a shoot on the metro with a few thousand dollars worth of gear can sometimes get unwanted attention. If all your shooting ends up being during the daylight, you should have no problem at all.

Daylight savings time starts on Mar 8. Before that sunrise is around 6:30a and sunset is 6p. After that, sunrise and sunset are about 7:15a and 7:15p respectively.

I know there are some urban street shooters here at POTN that can direct you to the cool street stuff. My experience has mostly been Arlington, the Potomac, memorials, bridges and buildings.

It's going to be around the 16th and the 17th. My dad is going to be in town and he was an avid film photographer in the 80's. He wants to spend some time in the Air and Space and the Natural History. I only have access to the equipment I have on hand at the moment. I live in Virginia Beach, so I should be able to make it back there a few more times. Thank you for your help!
