I have a 20D and my home computer has XP, But I am sooting a huge even and Im going to take a million pics so I need a laptop. My dads has Windows 98 but my cam wont hook up to it. What if I get a CF reader? Will I be able to download my pics on the win 98 laptop?

Yep, use a card reader for the best and quickest results.

The card reader likely will need a USB port to plug into. Windows 98 may or may not support a USB card reader very well. I did have a USB card reader on a Win98 machine, but as I recall I had to find and install some USB support drivers to do so. If you happen to have Win98SE you may have better luck as the SE version supposedly supports USB devices.

USB devices need drivers in order for Win98 to recognize them.

Inw 98 SE supports USB 1.1 natively, win 98 does not. You may be able to get a stock win98 machine to work with certain drivers.

Windows 98 requires that you install drivers for USB devices. Those drivers may not always play nicely with others already installed. Win XP has drivers built in for most USB devices. You just plug and play as they say.

Yeah ... 98SE requires drivers but it works pretty well. My 98SE Dell desktop came with USB 1.1 and I later installed a USB 2.0 card. The card reader works fine with either.
