I have been really focusing my attentions on landscape photography latley have a great kit and plenty of wall hanging material. I've tried my hand at wedding and portraiture but I truly enjoy working alone with nature . I have learned over time that a good photographer doesn't eqaul a succesful one. So my question is really how can I make even a small icome doing what I enjoy business wise. This also goes without saying but not into selling my photos for 10 cent a pop on these stock sites how else can I sell where are my markets . I've market my service as a portrait and wedding photographer but this is a different game

I'm not familiar with where you live, but my husband had his pictures hung up in a local coffee shop (ma and pa place) and they had them for sale for $40 each and he sold a bunch. Then they got new management and made him take them all down, but for a while it was a great deal!

Have you looked into Local, regional or National fairs? Set up a booth with frame photos and sell them there. Will take some investment at the start but I have known a few people that makes some good money off it, though they say its not easy. In Florida where I live, you can find a fair pretty much every weekend out of the year around the state. That way you can still shoot what you love to do and market that to people to make some cash.

2 words....OK 3....Presentation and Precieved value. First impressions are key to life, we all know that. Without seeing any of your work, Ill just say try to match your presentation to the work. Dont have $400 prints just lying arround on a table. And dont over do the cheep ones. Also do what you can to make people think they are getting something of value. More specificaly, more value than they are paying. Again not knowing your work, but I think you know what I am refering to. One simple "trick" is simply number your works. If you can only afford to print 30 at a time..... well they are a limited run of 30 prints. And put the 23 of 30 or whatever on the mat. People love limited stuff.
This is all part of marketing. Head to the library and get some books on marketing. Not text books, but books after the fact. Ones that look at a campain or technique after it was used and tells why it worked. There are lessions in there even if the produst was not photo related, Read into the psycology of why it worked.
I know this does not really answer your question, but it will guide you in finding what works for you.

it does sort of answer my question . even if these are things ive thought of before its good to be reminded or hear from someone else that its a good or bad idea saving me the trouble of learning the hard way . i live in florence SC and my idea of marketing was that around here your damn proud of the south (i was raised here but family roots from north so i dont get it) so i was going to market different series of local landscapes which are historically representative of the south like the spanish moss covered swamps and long rows of tobacco fields with old barns or a coastline series you get the picture . people love to know and own work from a local artist and of local places sound like a decent marketing appraoch in a nutshell of course ,i know itll need to be much more involved than that

To get started in the industry and earn a reputable name I would start doing limited run prints like Mark1 said. You also might want to work on specific projects that you can turn into photo books. The key will be getting galleries to let you do showings. Not only will you be able to build rep but you can sell both the limited prints and the photo books. Once you start the ball rolling start sending work samples to any and all magazines that run landscape photography. You will have to research them and find out who makes the photographic decisions. I would also have a simple display website designed, in your case it's not a commercial portfolio think of it more as an online art gallery. Also start a blog about things you are doing photographically. Hard to really judge wither you will have success without seeing your images.
