yes, very noticeable (in a great way) that you're using different lighting. This photo is really jumping out of the screen. And now that Timmy mentioned it, Charles, where do you come up with all fashion in your shoots? http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Interesting story guys. I had planned to do this shoot as a test for the color and consistency from the Bees as well as their overall usability, power, handling, etc. Unfortunately, I ended up rushed in my preparations and I was not nearly as ready as I wanted to be. Instead of using two large soft umbrellas for main and fill, or my softboxes I had to pull something together out of stuff at the studio.

I ended up using one small bounce umbrella (fill) and a bare light shot thru a large scrim (homemade, actually white plastic mounted in a wooden frame on wheels) as the main. I had left my umbrellas (the good ones) at home along with the new Speed Rings so I was stuck. I could have postponed but a little improvisation yielded some decent images.

I have a Pelican 1610 on order to hold all the AB gear together so once that arrives (today hopefully) this won't be an issue any more.

The outfit is part of a fashion catalog I am working on. Most of the outfits retail in the $400 to $500 range but these will all be sold as samples for much less (probably $200). They are top quality lambskin (I think) though some have other or additional materials. Frankly, the models LOVE them because they are so cool and feel so good. If you see an outfit you want, let me know as I can probably help you out.

charles,

What llighting were you using befor. I never once thought your lighting looked anything but exceptional.

I use slaved flash guns (vivitar 283's) into large umbrellas and have a home made softbox that I use on occasion. and have been pleased with the results. More light would be great but my lighting set up fits in a small duffel bag and weighs maybe 8lbs so thats a big plus for me.

Some day I will probably get a set of bees, but I will need a larger working space to make full use of them.

Your lighting has always been so good. Why switch? Better stuff?

What was you last setup?

I though the results were great from the last lighting... no need to switch.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the previous lighting. I have used Photogenic Powerlights for many years now. I love them and they will remain my main studio lights. In fact, I am finally selling all my speedotron gear off in stages. I just have 2 packs and 3-4 heads left.

The Photogenics are excellent lights. Far bigger and more powerful than Bees. But I can put 4 bees into a single Pelican 1610 and then, with a standbag, I am in business. The Powerlights are too big, too heavy for taking on the road.
