OK. So now I have fallen in love with the Crumpler Million Dollar 6 bag!
Is it going to be big enough for my :
Canon EOS 40D and a few lenses?
How is the padding? I heard it isn't very well padded...

This bag searching is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!

uhh i have the 7MDH.. and love all of the padding that is in it.. i have my 50d, 430-ex, 30mm, 50mm, some old cruddy 18-15, a 70-300, and some cruddy UWA, ontop of that i have a pouch of filters, teleconverter, some stacking filters, a off camera hotshoe cord, a mini flashs oftbox thingy.. and then my CF card case that houses 8 cards.

i think youll be ok with the 6MDH. i bought one for my friend last year, and he likes it a lot.

ehh i probably didnt help much.. but i liked the bag so much.. im going to buy another one, but a different color.
and i feel it has way more than enough padding in them.

yeah, i don't know where you heard they aren't padded very well...the padding is great, almost too thick at times...but i'll never part with my 7mdh. :)

I can't imagine my 6MDH having more padding. It's very nice. Although it can get dusty/linty over time.

Hi there I have this bag 6 mdh. I love it. the padding is thick ( the dividers).
I use it for me

XSi with 50 mm, middle compartment
2 other lens ( kit lens, and 10-22mm lens) on one side
430 flash on the other side

fits nicely with a little room left.
I think if you have more than this, you are better off with bigger bag.

Feels comfortable when I take for walks. Even I walk 1 hour, still ok on the shoulders.
Bag quality great.

hope this helps.

Plenty of padding.

What gear do you have? It really depends on the gear for which one is right for you.

Canon Eos 40D
.45xWide angle
75-300mm Zoom
30mm
LumixDMC-TZ5
And whatever else I acquire...I am just starting. So I want a bag that will kinda grow with me...

the 6 million dollar home is really roomy. Mine fits a 24-70 2.8, 14-24 2.8 , 70-200 2.8, 35 2, 85 1.8 and 50 1.4 + a d3.

6MDH should be fine. It really works great as long as you do not have a lot of long lenses.

Current haul in 6MDH:
-30D w/24-105 and hood reversed
-100 Macro
-10-22 EF-S
-50 1.8
-420ex

Plenty of room for another mid sized lens as well. Before that I carried the 100-400L instead of the 100mm Macro and it worked out great though no more room for another lens.

This is not including other odds and ends in the other pockets (batteries, cf cards, battery charger, a few filters, card reader, wipes, etc.)

Is it easy to get your camera out of the bag?

For me, very easy. I have it setup so that it stands on end and thus you are looking at the back of the camera when you open the bag. Just grab the grip and it slides right out ;)

ok- I have seen some photos and it looks like it might be tough to get it out. Got any pics for little 'ol me? :)

The 6MDH is a great bag! I love mine. I can easily fit in both my cameras (5D and 450D, no grips). Both with mounted lenses (pointed downwards) + an extra lens and a bottle of water. The lenses I usually bring are 17-40L, 35L and 135L. When I need longer lenses I use another bag (Tamrac Pro 5 messenger bag).

I posted some photos of my setup here:

Thanks so much! I am so going with a 6 :) I think a 7 might be a little big. I have 4 kids (6,3,2,1) and have to lug enough BAGS! LOL

That was the thing for me as well. The 7MDH is just a bit bigger, but when I travel I already have to carry on another bag for my laptop and other things so having it as small and compact as possible is nice.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the bottom of the Crumpler MDHs a bit thin on padding?

Honestly, no. I find it to be plenty on my 6MDH. More than many other bags I have owned actually.

Nice! We are like 4.5 hours from the Cities!

I had to take some padding out actually. I often use this bag to travel light, carrying the following: 5D w/ grip and 24-70 hood reversed. Off to the side I have room to squeeze in a 580EX, 100 Macro, and a 17-40 with a 50mm on top. I usually just stick with two lenses but can carry all these plus misc. items if I wanted to.

I'm looking to buy either the 6 or 7 MDH. Seems that the 6 will fit a 17-55mm f/2.8IS, 50mm f/1.8 and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6IS :).

However, I wonder if the padding is enough to carry the bag with two relatively heavy lenses all day long?

There are photos of different setups using this bag on this site: http://www.cambags.com/

Maybe it might help.
