I fluked this shot of Godrevy lighthouse in Cornwall, UK. The thing is that it has an annoying white haze on the left hand side.

I just cannot seem to blend it away in Photoshop. I have tried adding a gradient layer but cannot seem to edit the gradient once it has been done.

Can you help?

Any comments on the picture gratefully received. I may well frame it and sell it from the hotel my parents run.

I am using PS v6 by the way.

Thanks

Jeremy

i dont have long to work on this but thius took 30 secs.

Go into quick mask mode and use the gradient tool to mask off the right hand side then adjust.

You don't want to get rid of it totally because it shows your light source for the light house. If it were me, I'd just subdue it... sample the sky color before it fades, fill-darken only, brush it in and do the same for the 2 other tones. Then match the noise of the rest of the photo, blurring the noise if needed before brushing it in.

oops. I forgot to write that when you fill, darken only, only do it at about 60% opacity.

Oh, and by the way, the way to edit a mask without looking at it is you make a selection and then you have to apply it to either any layer besides the original or to an adjustment layer. Then you can select it and play with it. My guess is that you were working with the base layer. The key is to add noise to the gradient, if you choose to go that route. Otherwise you'll get banding and your adjustment will band, too.

Thanks mate.

I shall try and do that although at first glance PS6 does not have that "quick mask mode".

Maybe I shall have to "invest".

Cheers
