I was looking to buy (in USA)a Mark II 1D but they seem more expensive now than they were several months ago. I could get one for $3795 or so but now they all seem to cost $3999. Anyone know why or am I looking at the wrong places? I look at the normal safe places like B&H,Canoga,Adorama

$3800 is easy to find for a 1D Mk II these days from a reputable place. Buydig.com was selling them for $3695 for a while, but they are sold out now. I know a few people who bought from them with no problems at all. PCRush is at $3895, and Park Deals has them for $3795: http://store.yahoo.com/parkdeals/9313a002.html

There are cheaper places, but not ones I would trust.

I have a work mate who is supposedly a 'proffesional photographer'. He was all proud of finding a 20D for $749. Royal Camera. I warned him what to expect and pointed him in the direction of reseller ratings. He decided he was going to stick with them though as they also had a good price on a Tamron 28-300 that he was going to use for portraits and weddings.

Do everybody a favor and don't post the link. Only a complete ripoff store would advertise it that low and you will never get it for that price.

When checking out that kind of store, see their prices for compact flash cards; that's a dead giveaway. A one gig card on their site is like $1,399. That's right, only about 1200 clams more than it should be. They sell the charger for the camera as a separate item and it can be yours for the nice inflated price of over 600 when a legitimate price is around 300.

I repeat, save us from the link.

Jimmy, I have the 1DSMKII, not the 1DMKII.

I originally ordered it (the 1DSMKII) from www.thecamerashop.com (http://www.thecamerashop.com) located in Bryn Mar, Pennsylvania. They sell it for 7600, which is $400 cheaper than anyone else. A fellow forum member on this site recommended them and stated he purchased the camera there for that price.

Their website does not support ordering and so I called them. I spoke to a very nice gentleman who took my cc info and said the camera would be in his hands the next day and in mine in two to three days.

As it turned out, they never got the camera in and so they credited me.
I subsequently got it locally at the price everybody else has it for: $7999.00.

Subsequently, about two months later, they called me to indicate they had it in. Too late, unfortunately.

There's an old saying: If it's too good to be true, it ain't true. That price by the link you posted is garbage. The website does not exist on www.resellerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com), which a very reputable source for determining if "stores" are on the up and up. Caveat emptor.
