I Think Not! Drebel w\Canon 100-400 L IS+Canon TC1.4 @ 400mm-Tv mode-400 shutter-f11-AWB! Manfrotto monopod-PSCS Levels + USM(200,1.3,0) and cropped 100%!! Love this Lens!!!

No, didn't tape Contact Pins. Manually Focused..however, out of 50 Shots at Different Aperatures and Shutter Speeds, only 25% were Sharp enough for Keepers, this one being the Sharpest!!

Did you tape the contacts to be able to use the lens with the tc?
Where did that come from?
You do not need to tape off any contacts to use either a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter on the lens.
Now, as a completely different issue, you may want to do that if you want to fake the body into ignoring the loss of one or two stops by the teleconverter, and that is mostly for autofocus purposes, not basic use.
