This was the 2nd time I tried imaging the Cone Nebula. This was the first sub of the night. (large shot) The first time I shot this neb. I got jet trails also. (small shot) Never had trails right thru a shot before but now twice within a week...Very strange I thought. It was not in the exact same spot in the sky both times of course, but perhaps close enough to somebody's flight path. Only a 5min. sub, just glad it wasn't a long one.

That image is beautiful, sorry about the jet trail :( That's gotta be a pain in the neck, but hey it's a unique capture !

It never ceases to amaze me how much stuff there is flying around up there. Depending on where in the sky you shoot and sub length I find nearly 10% of my frames end up with a jet or satellite in them.

Yea, and it seems to be increasing. This was a sub from last night....:rolleyes:And about 30min. after this shot, I took 1, 10 min. exposure that caught a single streak above that bright star....

Yes it happens a lot.
There isn't an imaging session which I don't get a satellite or plane trail in at least one frame.

BTW in your picture of M42, I think that's a geostationary satellite.

I thought it must be some kind of satellite, it seems to have a different 'look' than most trails.......
