Hi Everyone. This is not really photography related, but thought I would ask for some guidance. I have an HV30 and would like to transfer the video to my PC. I am currently using PhotoDex ProShow Gold software. I can't seem to find a way to capture the HV30 video into ProShow. Do I need some additional software or am I missing something in ProShow?

Does your computer have a Firewire port (1394)?
I use Adobe Premiere, but you may be able to use Windows Movie maker to capture video. WMM comes with Windows XP and probably Vista as well.

you can download Premiere from Adobe's site and use it for 30 days to try it out.

Oh, did your camera come with any software? Mine is at the studio, and I just pulled the camera, charger, battery and cables from the box and left everything else in there, so I am not sure what software, if any, came with the camera.

I do have a firewire connection on my PC. I read somewhere that WMM for XP is not compatible with HD videos. The only software that I found that came with the camera seems to be software for downloading the still images from the camcorder, but has nothing to do with the video.

the hv30 should have come with software that controls the operation of the camcorder via the firewire port, which is how you'd capture the footage off of tape.

what is the name of the software package that came with the hv30? did you install it?

You can use your editing program to capture the video. As long as you have a 1394 on your computer, Vista or XP with SP2.

An excellent program to start out with is Sony Vegas, or Vegas Movie Studio (limited tracks). Movie studio is only $85, and you get DVD architect.. which is great for DVD authoring(compatable with .psd files also)
