Hi, seriously a newbie in digital photography and in this forum here. So please be gentle >_<

I just got my 1st digicam today and am currently still trying to figure out the controls. I've tried using the 'Pets' mode without the flash on to take pictures of my lovebirds. But everytime i take a picture (be it a half-pressed of full-press motion), there'd be a 'red light' shone first (i suppose it's the 'red-eye' reduction thingy?). Is there any way i can remove it or switch it off? It sure is scaring my lovebirds pretty bad >_<

Thanks!

It's probably the AF-Assist light. See if there's a setting on the Ixus to turn that off. On the A-80 it's one of the "Set" options.

Kids & Pets mode turns on the red-eye reduction by default - but I think that just shines the AF light for a little longer. What you want to do is go to the menu and set 'AF-assist Beam' to 'Off'. This might make it harder to get focussed photos, though.
