When I take shots with the G1 in night mode the subject comes out blurry 80% of the time.

Is this because you have to hold the camera steady after you press the shuter button and/or your subject must stay still a few seconds?

Please help, what are the best settings for taking pics durring night? Do I need a Tripod?

Thanks

Night mode, and Av mode with flash, are "slow sync". These are meant to be used when you have a foreground subject nearby against a distant background that is too far for the flash to reach.

The G1 fires the flash to light up the foreground subject, but then keeps the shutter open to expose the distant background.

So, you need a tripod and you must tell your subject to stand still for a while after the flash fires, since the shutter may still be open.
