Tried out my new scope last for its first light debut . Pretty pleased with what I was seeing . Stuck to the Moon mostly , had a peek a Saturn . Took a couple of pic's , one included below, but last night was purely for visual and what a joy it was as well.

Nice one. What speed did you shoot that one?

I only took pics of Luna sadly .

As for the speed it was 1/250 .

Thanks for the comments.

Nice setup. About same specs as mine. I couldn't find an adapter that would let me achieve focus. I had to fabricate an adapter that screws into the focus housing itself, and only still have about 1/4" focus until it bottoms out, and has no threads that will accept filters. I've heard them called 'lo-profile' adapters. Do you have a 2" focuser? Do you have problems with focusing? Just curious, I've been looking for someone with a similar setup that may have run into this as well.

Hi Dave

Yup very similar setups indeed. In my Newt' there is a direct camera connection thread on the 2 " Crayford . I only took about twenty frames and , being its first light , I really need to use it more with the camera at prime. It seems ok on the draw Dave .

I do however have to use a 2 " extension tube on the C80 mind you. Weirdly enuff the same extender ( William Optics 2 inch prime Focus Camera Adaptor ) does not fit in the Newt' focuser ?

On Thursday night coming , I am hoping to image Moon with a 1 1/4 Barlow , that should be fun , lol. If that works I may then pluck up the courage to try some Afocal shots , IF the camera / lens / ep is stable.

Not to beat a horse to death,... but do you have to screw the camera into the focuser, or can you slip it in like with a T-ring? Did you buy your adapter from Canon? Do you need to take a piece out of the focuser to mount the camera? What I mean is, when you take out the camera, can an eyepiece go back in without replacing something? This may sound convoluted, but I'm just trying to find a better way...:)Thx.....

My 450D , with the Adapter ( canons own one ) threads directly to the two inch tube.

I have to take out the 1.25 adapter ( on focuser ) to accomadate above. If I am using a two inch EP then it can go straight in after camera is removed/ detached.

Above is at Prime Focus.

With the Barlow ( being used Thursday night ) I will have to leave the 1.25 focuser inside the two inch tube, as the Barlow is 1.25. Barlow again can attach straight onto the canon adapter ring. That said though you can , at times , maybe introduce vignetting with any 1.25 used with cameras . Better using a two inch.

For Afocal I use a Baader Hyperion Zoom with a T Ring for the Adapter that threads straight onto the Hyperion EP.

If you dont already have a Canon Adapter for front of camera then I think ( from what your asking ) that you need to get one. Have a look a the Baader site , they have a PDF that shows various ways of attaching optics to each other , scopes included. Let me know how you get on , if your still stuck I can maybe help out more .

edit : off to work now , need more pennies to buy more gear :-) . will check thread in morning.

i Use a 2" Prime Focus Adapter from Stellarvue (http://www.stellarvue.com./adapters.html) . Screws right into the T-Ring for the camera and this slips into a 2" diagonal or 2" Focuser . Take it out and slip in your 2" EP also . I use this with my SV AT1010 80mm refractor and a 2" replacement diagonal for my Celestron 8" SCT .

BTW Pete , great shot ! Looks like the scope is doing you justice .

Thx Ron. I have no problems with my refractor, and SCT's I understand don't seem to have the issue I'm having due to the fast f/4.9 reflector I have, (100mm fl.). Baader seems to maybe have something I might look into. What I have "works", but it is a pain to have to unscrew the focuser and screw in the camera, plus I can't fut a filter in it. I'm just looking for a better solution.

The adapter i have has screw threads to attach a filter in it the same way you attach a filter to a EP . Only thing is it's a 2" barrel so it has to be a 2" filter and they are more expensive than a 1-1/4" filter :( . BTW , you have a link to the Canon adapter ? Just curious what it looks like .

I bought it 3-4 yrs. ago. Just a t-ring. From Orion I'd guess but I can't be sure now. I can take a pic of it if you want. The side that fits on the camera was fine but the other side didn't mate with anything I could use. I'd like to think I didn't know what I was doing back then, but I just remember I couldn't get it to work... The OM-1 ring just had the same threads as my focuser by chance. If the camera is moved back to the point where a 2" E.P. would go in, it is too far away to achieve focus. So I don't know what else to do. I just can't believe I'm the only one with this dilema. But I haven't heard anyone else with the similar problem....

If you can post a pict with your camera attached to your scope and then another with the adapters and one showing the thread ends of the scope focuser i might be able to see better what problem your having . I know on my AT1010 (80mm) refractor that i had an extenstion in the focuser i had to remove cause it also kept me from coming to focus but when i took it out then focus came easy .

Here is my camera mounted in the focuser, and what part of the focuser I must remove for the adapter to work. (Shown is the 2" and 1.25" E.P. holder). Camera adapter has threads on the outside, and focuser has them on inside. As you can see by the bit of silver showing on the focuser, that is how much travel I have...(not much).

Here is the camera adapter by itself, and another look at the focuser housing. (Sorry about the quality, my wife's camera...:D)

Thx for looking.
