So I've decided what I'm gonna do now.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains
Where the spirits go now,
Over the hills where the spirits fly, ooh.
I really don't know...
Nice photo Dave. I like.

Monster photo, Dave. You do get a perspective the rest of us can't, and you take advantage of it. Great work.

Thanks for the comments. i fly over the smoky mountains about four times a week and rarely does a photo op present itself. The mountains are usually clouded over or blanketed in haze. This shot worked because it was taken shortly after sunrise. The clouds didn't have a chance to form yet.
I'm hoping to get up to the Smoky's by car sometime in the next week or two to catch the dogwoods blossoming.

Thanks again. I almost didn't post this one. Glad you liked it. I shot this with my 100-400 L through multilayered curved glass and into the sun. My 100-400 isn't very good through the airplane window. If I zoom any further than about 250mm it is unable to focus. I think this shot was taken around 150mm so the lens worked OK. In the origianl I wasn't very satisfied with the contrast. I boosted up a lot of things in photoshop to make this image more closely represent the actual scene. I was hoping to capture a bit more detail of the highest mountain peaks. They were frosty and looked a lot nicer than this photo portrays. I guess I couldn't stop and set up my tripod.
Beast,
I'm happy I drew you out of lurking. Here's a link to the largest version i have on the web.
http://www.pbase.com/rbndave/image/41515796/original That should work for you. It isn't exactly full size, but it should be more than enough. You can find more photos like this in my airline gallery. here's a link. http://www.pbase.com/rbndave/pictures_from_my_job Hope you enjoy.
