View Full Version : JPEG shooters: in-camera settings?

Up until the last sport I shot, I hadn't changed the in-camera settings. I changed them too much and the quality was lower as a result. From memory, I had sharpening at +5 with contrast and saturation at +3. I didn't like the results so I'm going to leave it at the default (+3, 0, 0) and then adjust anything I feel I have to in a batch later.

So what do you usually have? Do you change them for different situations? I guess this is a bit of an advice thread but also just to find out what others do to suit their wants and needs.

The only settings I mess around with "in camera" are the normal stuff....ISO, aperature, SS, etc.

I know it's recommended to shoot in manual with AI servo but as far as sharpening and contrast, I haven't touched them in camera. I save that part for PP work. Hopefully the more experienced photogs will chime in.

For bright outdoor sports: Contrast "-1", everything else at "0"

Going to "-1" on contrast was HUGE!

I'd recommend shooting in faithful and doing post-processing in Photoshop.

...But that'd also defeat the purpose of shooting in JPEG instead of RAW lol

I'm not shooting for anyone but myself, so I take the time to go through pretty much every shot for a crop or fix. I'd prefer something neutral yet sharp so I can at least PP how I want to  Thanks.
