Well after one week with my new G10 I'm impressed with it. It makes me want to go out and make photos.
The 212 macro contest got me to try the settings even more. This is what I came up with

This is an old abandoned one room school house

And more playing around with the color accent

Here is the real reason for getting the G10. I wanted to get some good shots of my daughter with a small camera, so I wouldn't have to always use my DSLR. It seems to fit the bill well.

It's fast and handy when silly events happen

One more from last night... I needed to stop by the ATM to grab some cash and had the G10 with me. This is the entrance to the credit union with the ATM.

You definitely have an eye! It looks like the G10 worked well in low light.

Thanks. Sometimes I just see things, and a light goes off. I have boxes of old photos like that I have taken over the last 15 years. Some are good, and some are not. I must say however that I find myself having a lot of fun with the G10. It is doing everthing I have asked for so far. :)

Nice! What was the color settings used on the building (last shot in the first post)?

I grabbed the red on the door (color accent mode). The camera must have picked up on red in other places too.

The G10 works great in low light...but on a tripod and at a low ISO.

Also had my g10 1 week today, really enjoying the small quiet camera compared to my usual dslr's. I am getting up close and taking candids with better results than ever. I find the grip a little difficult, the menus a little deep, I miss having info in the viewfinder, I am struggling with the paralax error on closeups, some of the functions are, shall we say, not very intuitive, but I really like it so far. I havent even used the video feature or the color swapping outside of my living room yet, I recomend any DSLR owner to buy this camera in stead of their next dream 'l' lens, cost is less, fun is more. I wouldn't leave the DSLR at home if IQ is the goal, but for the pure fun of shooting and sharing, this is the ticket. In spades.

My shot was hand held and at ISO 200 in manual. The thing to remember is you are capturing the light not the dark.

I too just recently purchased the G10. I'm pretty new to all this so I was wondering what features you find yourself using the most, aside from the ISO of course. Do you use the exposure knob much? Do you keep your program knob to manual, or what program do you prefer to use the most?
Thanks in advance!

I use manual a lot. I have found that I use Program when I want that quick snap shot of my daughter when she is doing her thing. When I have time and she is being cooperative I use manual. I have been having a lot of fun with the color accent mode also. It all depends on what I am shooting.
Hope that helps a little. :D

I always have it set to manual as well and mess around with the ISO and exposure dial. I haven't started playing with the color accent mode yet, but I sure will now! The G10 is a great camera. However, it takes poor pictures in low light (night indoor) situation. I also noticed that the pictures look far better on the LCD screen than it does on my computer monitor.
I was wondering if anyone takes RAW shots with the G10. I read somewhere online that I shouldn't even bother shooting in RAW on the G10. I wonder why?
Thanks!

I shoot raw with my g10, if you can get photoshop cs4 and the updated camera raw, it's fantastic. The amount of processing you can put your pics through compared to jpeg is quite impressive.

thanks! I have to give it a try now and see what you mean. I actually just installed Creative Suite CS4 so I do have PS CS4, but haven't started using it yet. Right now I'm messing around with Bridge and ACR. I've been searching for all kinds of info/guide/tutorial online, but I think I might just have to get one of those classroom in a book or something. I want to get down all the basics first and have a strong foundation. Sounds like fun!
