I plan to shoot a college tennis match this weekend. I am not sure if these events are crowded or not so not sure how close i can sit on the bleachers. Eitherway, I wanted to know what is the ideal focal length for tennis. Right now i only have the 28-135mm, i hope the 135mm will be enough. If not is not to late for me to rent a lens.
Thx in advance.

I have shot tennis once before, and on my 40D, I found the 70-200 being PERFECT.
Try renting it. Don't need the IS, so just rent the 70-200 2.8L, maybe a monopod if you find it to be too heavy to hold for the entire match.
EDIT: I used the 70-200 2.8, but I was down on the court... so, if you're in the bleachers, maybe even rent a 100-400. 70-200 may still be fine in the bleachers, but, MAYBE not ideal.

During my Cal days I used to be a tennis fanatic and often visited the matches among Cal vs. Stanford vs. USC vs. UCLA and so on. Unless you're at the NCAA finals, you won't be faced with a bustling crowd to deal with at these tennis matches. You can get pretty close to the action except the players don't like to hear the shutter sound going off. I'd say the 70-200 f/2.8 is sufficient or 100-400 just to be on the safe side as long as you're shooting in good lighting condition so that the shutter speed isn't going to be compromised....
