Which wired remote is everyone using? I don't have one for my 40D and I'm looking at the basic RS-80N3 vs. the TC-80N3. The price difference is huge between the two. I can live with the basic functions of the RS-80N3 for the $50 price tag but the TC-80N3 really looks neat with the timer functions and backlight. I could do some nice time lapse work with it and eliminate the requirement of a tethered PC or laptop to control the camera for the same purpose. But at $137 is it worth it?
What's everyone using?
Jon.

Well, I got the TC-80 model just because of the timing functions.

Buy one of the Ebay shutter triggers with wireless functions and you don't need a timer. I have the Yongnuo (?) but they're all the same so pick one.

Jon, does the timing work like you expected it to?
Dan, the idea of the timer is so you can set a timed interval and let it go. The timer will take pictures every minute or every hour etc. The main limitation is the battery reserve. With a wireless remote I don't think you can do that. At least not any I've looked at.
For my old 300D I had both the wired and wireless remotes. I used the wireless because it was always attached to my neck strap and easy to grab... The wired remote was more or less for a backup. But I never really needed it.
One more nice feature on the more expensive TC-80N3 remote is the back light. I seem to do a lot of long exposures and end up counting out the seconds to try for a perfect exposure. Some times I've even needed to shine a light on the back of the camera so I could see the counter. With this remote I'm pretty sure I would be able to turn the light on and watch the counter so I can time the shots exactly. At least that's what I'm thinking.

I have one of the Chinese Knock offs of the TC-80, I think I paid $25 - $30 for it. It had a problem early on, nothing a soldering iron couldn't fix. I like the interval feature, in fact I used it today to finally get a shot of me clearing the driveway:

For the price of a TC-80 you could get wired timer remote and a wireless remote from the Chinese retailers on Ebay. That's what I did and I'm most happy with my purchases.

I have their other wireless remote and LOVE Satechi for their customer service and my remote works great. But after reading that there is no off button on this unit, I didn't think it was something I would buy.

On the wireless whats the distance limit you can shoot? 100m (300 ft)
Whats the different durations of timming on the TC80? 4 Modes: Shutter Release Timer (0s-99h59m59s), Exposure Timer (0s-99h59m59s), Interval Timer (Time between shots) (0s-99h59m59s), Total Number of Shots (1-399)
Hope this helps.

Alrighty, it is 80cm (2.6ft). They have some aftermarket ones which go to 10-12 ft, which is why I asked. I was getting confused with all the remotes flying around!

Jon.I'm not quite sure what you mean by "like I expected it to". It lets me set delay before first shot, intervals between shots, number of shots to take in a sequence, and how long a single exposure should be (if I want to exceed the camera's slowest shutter speed) as well as combinations of the above. With the exposure duration control, you won't need to watch the timer - you can just set the timer to take whatever odd exposure timing you want to use.

I might add that the Canon model timed remote also has a jog wheel that the others lack. Pretty nifty if you ask me. But you didn't, so I'll go back under my rock now...

I want a timer remote but I don't have the time really to put it to good use. I have a Phottix wired and wireless remote (1st gen)

My wife bought me one of these (http://dpnow.com/4844.html) for Christmas. It's cheap and cheerful and the wireless unit frankly feels a bit rickety, but it seems to work efficiently enough. It doesn't have a timer though. I wouldn't necessarily expect it to live long, but I'm not expecting to use it very often, so it suits me.

Actually, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
Thanks.
Now it's time to hit the B&H website before they close next week!

Hi, I have the TC-80N3 that I used with my 20D can someone tell me if this will work with the my 40D as it does not want to attach when I try to push it on, it works fine with the 20D and I don't want to force it on the 40D for obvious reasons.
Any Advice please.
