I was curious as to what forum members thought of RawShooter compared to Digital Photo Professional. I'm a newbie on the forum and to RAW editing and wondered which of these programs would be recommended by the "pros" for a serious amateur photographer. Are they comparable or does one completely blow the other away?

Hello,

I've used Capture One, Photoshop Elements 3 with limited Adobe Camera Raw plugin and RawShooter.

I use to not make a lot of adjustment to my raw file : very small sharpening (Now, I've a well educated eye to detect too much sharpening).
My concerns to adjust photo is mainly : shadow/light adjustment and rendering correctly the dynamic range of the photography.

First, I use C1 and two distincts photos with shadow/highlight mask in order to combine them.
Using Rawshooter, I've not seen very good feedback about dynamic range.
After getting PE3, I use exclusively from now, ACR plugin that address very fast my concerns.

IMHO, I prefer PE3 with ACR !

I use Bibble Pro both as a stand alone program and also as a PS Plug-in.

I use it mainly for white balance, highlights and exposure adjustments ashaven't had it long to delve into all its abilities.

They all have their good and bad points. Canons are free, Adobe plug is free if you have CS. RSE is free at this time and the others have trial periods. Try them all , do your own comparisons and use what best suits your needs,

I've been using Rawshooter now for about a month and I find that it performs better on Landscapes or inanimate objects. I'm yet to have it do a splendid job on people/skin tones but I'm still working hard on it

Free with Photoshop Elements 3 also.

Free with Photoshop Elements 3 also.

But I notice you have 350D. The Photoshop plugin does not yet support the Rebel XT (350D). Adobe says it will, but offers no date. People are guessing 1 to 3 months.

If there are any Linux users out there, Bibble Labs makes a port of their Pro and Lite versions for Linux.. They're the only ones that do :(

I use Bibble Lite for Linux.. It works well.. I really like the sharpening function.

Lot of companies have demo you can try it out before buying a full version.

DPP 1.6 from Canon came w/ DrebXT(I would suggest try this out first).
Bibble,
RSE,
PSCS,
Phaseone and many more....
