I need to shoot in bright daylight with my camera on manual settings...

How do I use the camera as a light meter and set it the camera to those settings?

Also I have a 550 flash...how do I set it to half flash?

What would you set your camera on to shoot portraits in bright daylight? My subjects will be in a hand held shade but the backgound will be bright.

Thanks!

Mary:rolleyes:

Mary, do you have a camera? What kind? That may be important.

For the 550EX, the method of getting 1/2 power is described on pages 44 and 45 of the manual.

I guess you don't know the sunny f/16 rule. Sun is always the same brightness which makes it nice. Memorize the correct settings for your iso speed and use them anytime metering might be tricky (or the meter in your camera breaks.) Correct exposure for anything out in the sun is f/16 at a shutter speed of 1/iso. Now you don't have to shoot at f/16 - just an easy way to remember it. Iso 64: sun = 1/500 f/5.6 oops that is a left over from my film days.
