I have been reading the forums about netbooks. I am confused about screen resolutions - most netbooks are 1024 x 600 while apparently DPP needs 1024 x 768 to run.I thought that the screen resolution only meant I would have to zoom out when viewing photos (I shoot raw).
Can someone explain simply ?

DPP checks the screen resolution; for whatever reason the programmers decided that if the screen resolution wasn't at least 1024x768, the screen would be too small to run usefully. You can, however, run DPP on netbooks either with an external monitor or by getting the (free) virtual screen utility (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=7248614&postcount=12) originally written for the Asus Eee PC.

I have the Asus Eee PC and it works fine. Netbooks have very small screens. I doubt I will ever edit big jobs on it. Those are mainly made for traveling and going on the net, that's it. Even with 2GB RAM, it is not very fast and cannot take too much work at once.
