Im just wondering if its a big deal, or should I save the twenty five dollars? Does anyone have it and do you actual use it?

I don't think it's necessary ... it's the only lens I don't have a hood for. The lens surface is recessed so far back from the front of the body that it's well protected from damage and (in my experience) flare.

Thanx for the response---helped make my decision better.

I picked up a black metal screw in lens hood for my 50 1.8 Doest it help? Probably not for the reasons that HJ stated, but heck, it sure makes it look good:):)

The hood's tiny, and you need an adaptor to use it (which is provided I think). Since the lens is recessed so far into the body of the lens I don't think it's essential, though it might be helpful in some situations. I'll use it for my theatre shoots, but I won't bother otherwise.
