Sauk....got any ideas as to why the jpegs look better ? I shot my last game in jpeg with ambient as well, and I think they turned out pretty good all things considered.
I agree that the jpegs look better.....very interesting. There is nothing wrong with the RAW images though, imo.

To be honest I am not sure, but for whatever reason I like the jpegs better in ambient. I like the raw's though for strobed work.

You didn't happen to shoot any RAW+JPEG did you ? I might have to try that sometime to try and figure it out.

Just saw that too. You know it's good when there's a blood call on a basketball game.

Usually I do as a backup but I did not do it this time.

Part of it is when you shoot a JPEG in camera all the camera settings for things like sharpness, contrast, etc. are applied to the image. When you shoot RAW, depending on your RAW processor, the camera settings are dropped and what you are left with is the actual data captured by the camera and you have add the changes in post.

Matt, the ambient looks really nice. If anything, they might be a tiny tiny bit on the cool side but it's not much if so and it's a personal choice anyway. Nice job bud.

Learn something new everyday....thanks for the info Big K. I guess the next question would be, Sauk did you PP both the raw and JPEG images ? If you did, maybe raw isn't the best mode for sports (indoors).

Well I like raw for strobes but for high iso ambient I like jpeg better.
