the band (neurosis) only plays w/ light from a projector...no stage lighting whatsoever. this was a tough shoot to say the least.
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
f/1.8 @ 85 mm
1/20
ISO 6400
i did some post but no noise reduction...i love this camera!

Since you used the 85mm at f1.8... than this is a very good capture, considering you shot at 1/20th hand held.
His beard looks pretty cool.

1/20 handheld is an impossible trick for me :-(
your cam captures at 6400 very nice

i also have a couple taken w/ the 35L f/1.4 wide open, w/ a shutter of 1/10 - 1/30...oh, and needless to say i couldn't use flash.

So what do you do to to keep the camera steady? You've got at least one heart beat to deal with, within a 1/30th snap... I guess the 35mm at 1/30th is close to the minimum... but 1/10th seems too slow.

Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous. It's always a challenge attempting to shoot "projector" bands.
How did the AF fare for you in that light? It looks like you had some contrast on the face...were you able to use the outer points?

dude, that's not even fair.

i did prop it against the edge of the stage, so that definitely helped. i can usually get good to at least decent sharpness under the 1/focal length rule of thumb, though, while hand-holding.

the outer points were useless, and even the center point struggled. manual focusing was difficult as well, since there was such little light it was very hard to get visual confirmation.

meh. they'll be online tonight. nothing to write home about...i could have certainly used some of your mark2's light-sucking abilities. i enjoyed the show though!

mine aren't so great either. the Paradise needs to upgrade their lighting system (in addition to allowing us to shoot from the sound mixer desk on the balcony).

Narlus, I can't see any of your images from my work PC, you must use a host that has a tag that is blocked by us :( That's poo :( I really only have time for POTN while I'm at my day job lol that's funny :D
Sooooooo I checked out your website (which isn't blocked YAY) really impressive work!!!!!! I would love to see more of your work and I'll also check out some of these other guys' work. I'm wanting to get serious with the band photography again. I was into it for awhile but took a break from it to concentrate on portraits and fetish work, but I'm squeezing my way back in again.
Anyways, looking forward to seeing more of your work!!! errrrrr at home anyways :D
