This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #167".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

**Due to my work schedule I will not be able to choose the winner until approx. 10pm

This round will end Friday 3/06 at ~12:00pm EST

Cropped, adjusted levels and curves, sharpened. Nothing fancy but trying to get a basic workflow going.

I’m just a newbie, so I’m having fun with Photoshop (though I’m getting better and better).

That’s the Stellar Spire in the Eagle Nebula (courtesy of the Hubble Space Telescope) in the background. I nipped out the boyfriend, cloned away the fence post in front of her shoulder. Adjusted the levels, and then went a film grain filter on the different layers. Came out like a poor man’s version of a Maxfield Parish, but I kind of like it.

crop
remove color cast
add vignette on bottom only to help draw attention from fence
add vignette blur on bottom for same reason as above

Cool picture, here's what I did...

- Cropped
- TRA (Totally Rad Actions) Rusty Cage layer
- Multiple high pass filter layers
- TRA Vignette and blur layer at 25% opacity
- Put the picture in an old frame and merged those layers. Then transform->warp to bend it a little, add some drop shadow, and put it on an old paper layer. Wish I had more time for this part, I wasn't completely happy with it.

sorry for the wait! i had to go out of town on business and could not get back until now. i apologize.

so whats distracting in this picture? that gosh darn fence! its got to go, the light from the pole makes her face yellow, the drinks in their hands, and theres just no 'pop' in those colors.

all said and done we have many different approaches on this one. just go to show the amount of creativity and diversity we have on this board!

tkblslc - love the scratch and dust, but not the crop.

sancho - love the crop, but the face is still yellow.

kendoway - love it, great artistic mind you have!

ocron - the desaturated is nice, so is the crop, but the border...

asay82 - never thought BW here, go a little heaver on the contrast.

scott - nice stamp!

tough choice, but i just keep coming back to Kendoway! that processing is out of this world! (literally)

congrats!

Nice job Kendoway! The artsy psychadelic theme really fit with this image. Nice edits all!

Thanks everyone. I'm on vacation at the moment, but should be back Tuesday night - when I'll kick off Before and After 167.

I'm not a terribly great photographer, so you'll have fun messing with whatever I post.
