Anyone here own this telescope? How do you like it? I'm kind of torn between this scope or the WO Megrez 90.

Thanks!

Scott

Both have good reputations, but I suspect that the Tak would have slightly better optics (but cost quite a bit more).

Steve (Nighthound) has the Tak Sky 90. Think he uses it for guiding and imaging. I remember him commenting once that he hasn't come across many people using it for imaging and was surprised at that. I think his images speak for themselves, don't you? :)

From what I've heard, you can't do much better than the Tak, but Steve will know best I'm sure.

I have an FSQ85 and it is gorgeously engineered. Nothing wrong with W/O (I have a MZ70 and FLT110) but the TAK's are in a different league (think Mercedes against Chrysler). The one thing to consider with a TAK is that you will need some TAK accessories to go with it and they are not cheap either.

Greg Parker also uses the Sky 90 and some of his images are world class.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have to consult with the SWMBO about this over the weekend. Looks like my 5D MK2 purchase might have to wait a little longer. Oh...and the 500mm f/4 L hmmm....

Scott, the Sky 90 is an excellent value. While not a "true" APO, it does not disappoint for long exposure work. With the reducer/flattener it's f/4 and 407mm(FL) and is built like a tank but very lightweight. TAK accessories are pricey but once you're equipped you won't likely be looking to upgrade. TAK products really are top notch.

I also have the FS-60C and can't imagine selling it or the Sky 90.

Yeah people tend to hang on to their TAKS. there is one big problem with them though...youo cant blame your scope when the images dont come out as you intended :-)

Thanks Steve and Chris. The one I was interested in was slightly used and had a decent price on it. It has either been sold or the guy changed his mind. I'm going to continue to watch for a used one to come up for sale.

I've been wanting a small fast refractor for imaging and I think the Sky 90 looks like a great choice at a reasonable price.

If you see a TAK at a good price second hand grab it fast!

You won't be disappointed with a TAK and it holds it's resale value too.
The only problem with a TAK is the bad weather it will generate once you buy one....LOL.

Definitely Tak.

But then I'm biased as I shoot with the FSQ106 fluorite and the FS-152 at times.

One of our club members has the william optics tube - I was not impressed at all. Too much end play with the focuser and the optics weren't nearly up to snuff as the taks or AP scopes that I've observed through.

I thought that was any scope...

Yep - this also applies to a spotting scope! Or a finder scope! Possible exception MAY be a telrad. :)
