Yes I am serious lol

I have full insurance and it will be covered. I have insurance through TCP and can provide proof if necessary.

If you want to lease me it instead of selling it let me know and at least you can make some money before you have to sell it off and help out a fellow photog!

Please PM me or email me or call me 801-520-0510 (msauk@mac.com)

I'd be more likely to lease you a kidney than part with my 400. :-) I got it out of the case this past weekend just to clean and pet it. I am ready to be back outdoors shooting.

I was in the same position last year when it came to getting my 300 f/2.8

Renting one for two weekends of football was going to cost me close to $500. Checking the for sale entries on this forum, I figured that I could buy the 300, keep it for a year or two and then sell it for about $500 less than what I paid for it.

I bought the 300, love it, and haven't looked back. The quality of images is great. You may want to do the same thing with it or the 400. Prices of new 300s are down.

PS I'm never selling the 300.

Matt,

What 'season' are you talking about? Baseball? When would you be done using the lens?

If you need a 400mm but on a tight budget, pick up the 400mm 5.6 and only shoot the daytime games with it. Then after the season pick up the 2.8 with the profits earned from the 5.6mm.

I would be done using the lens when the person leasing it to me asked for it back.

Palladium,

That is the thing I am not sure what time the games I will be covering in the spring are. Most MiLB games are mid afternoon night time. So that 5.6 might not cut it to be honest.

Hey Matt, I've got a 300 right here. You need it?

It says Nikkor on it. Is that gonna be a problem? :p

Matt - Are you still shooting Nikon or did you switch back to Canon? If your back with Canon have you looked at a used 400/2.8 Series II? You can get a nice one for around $3800. The problem with these is Canon is not servicing them anymore but I think there are some independent repair shops that will.

lol Dave :)

Sledhed,

Yeah I am back to canon, I think it has been since the end of football season.

I have looked at those but with money being a little tight I was hoping to "lease" something from someone for a few months or more. Figured if they were not using it at least they could get some extra cash every month plus it will be insured as well.

Dennis, I thought your hands got frozen up there, I have not seen you post in a while, glad to see ya back. Sorry Matt I will agree with Dennis on the 400, I use that lens 90% of the time. Have you looked into leasing thru B&H.
By the way Dennis congrats, GQ forwarded your email to me.

The leasing through B&H requires you be in business for 2 years, I am working on a year and 2 months.

I am still thinking of calling them though.

Romeo- Thanks, and yeah, we Northerners do get cold hands.

Matthew, I'll ask around, but I think the issue here in the Chicago area is, even if somebody was willing to lease you their lens, they'd have to get it to you somehow, and shipping, including insurance, would be $300 at least.

I agree with Phil. Buy one used, use it and sell it later. Much cheaper option except tha you might not want to sell it.

BTW - Have you checked borrowlenses.com? Not sure what they charge but I know the guys and have very good experiences.

$300 for shipping?

Lensrentals has the 400/2.8 for $319 for 7 days AND insured. They only charge $280 if youre not going with insurance and thats using Fed-Ex 2day Air. Surely the shipping costs must be a good amount lower than $300

Now, wanting to ship your own 400/2.8 across the country to someone else is a completely different story ;)

Matt: Im in the same boat as everyone else. Id just buy one used and then sell it when youre done.

I would suggest that you call Roger at Lensrentals.com and see what he can work out for you.

$300 for shipping?

Last time I sent my MkIIn into CPS, I sent it second day air, insured for $3000 and it cost something like $125...OK, maybe I exaggerated a LITTLE bit with regards to a $6,500 lens...

I'm guessing the lens rental place relies at least partially on their own insurance to cover any shipping damages.

Frank,

Right now with the place I would be financing through (roberts in indy) it would be a 48 month with around a 180 a month payment. I can make that no problem.
