This is the first time i have ever taken pictures at night and god it was hard, one of them is badly photoshopped if you look close enough lol. I didnt have a tripod and had to do it handheld in the wind.. lots of excuses here :)

very hard to take a nice picture when lots of streetlights about, think i will not persevere with night shots..
f i can ask a question here can i get my shutter speed any longer than 30 seconds on my 400D??

Wow, I take it that's the new bridge in Stockton? I'm going to have to go down and take some shots, it's a fantastic design.

Yes it is, the lights have not been on since i am not sure if they are saving them for a special occasion..
there is a webcam http://www.teesvalleyregeneration.co.uk/regeneration-projects/north-shore/camera if you want to keep an eye on it for when they put them back on.. Very impressive bridge its a pity the water was rough would have been even nicer with a reflection..

nice shots. To go longer than 30 seconds, use bulb mode.

I do like the first one. The lights and shapes work well together.
Best regards

Just keep turning your shutter speed slower and eventually it will hit bulb mode. It helps to have a remote release cord as the shutter will stay open for as long as it is pressed. Most remote release cables will have a lock to eliminate the need to keep it pressed.
Good luck!

Cool bridge! Would love more detail in the sky, perhaps try on the cusp of sundown next time instead of full night time.
