Does Anyone know anything about Dell Mini 9s?

I see I can get one with Ubuntu for $99 with an XPS desktop. Does anyone have any experience with it? If nothing else, it'd be a nice little portable computer I could put DPP on for quick, dirty edits.

I was very close to purchasing one of these, but I had read a bit in some bogs about the unit which made me question the purchase and I wasn't sure about the ubuntu O/S. That being said, it may turn out to be a very nice unit.
I finally decided on the Lenovo Ideapad S-10 with a Windows O/S.
Will be using for travel and basic raw downloads as you described...

Ubuntu is not weird named, it's been around for ages, and you can just check the price and know the OS, 299 and below ones are Ubuntu, rest are generally XP. $99 one is a special, you need to search for it.

Not direct experience with the mini9, but msi wind and eeepc as well, which are nearly the same thing. It will not work well for editing, but if you just want to view them it should be just fine. Screen is nowhere near accurate, and dpp won't work normally on that size screen.

The 10 inch ASUS is what I got and it barely works with the editing software. Yes, the resolution thing is an issue with smaller screens.

Thanks for the replies. Running DPP is not a huge concern for that laptop. I currently have a desktop and haven't missed not having a laptop (even when I had a laptop, I never carried it around). Although having a laptop would be nice to have, even if only for a word processor and internet capabilities.

Have the acer aspire one, had to force the screen to 1024x768 (instead of 1024x600) to get DPP to run. It takes 21 seconds to do 1 raw conversion. Seemed like an eternity compared to my dell M1710 at 7 seconds per raw or my desktop at 4 seconds per raw.

With its 160GB hard drive I think it will serve me well as a place to dump flash cards, the USB file transfer performance seems to be onpar (within 1 or 2 seconds for a whole card) with my desktop (vista reports the transfer rate at 25-27MBps from my Extreme III cards). Hopefully they used a reliable drive.

When I get home I use a USB gigabit network adapter to transfer the files to my file server for storage. Obviouly USB isnt the ideal interface for a gigabit adapter but the 38-40MBps I get is more acceptable than the 5-6MBps over wireless or 8-9MBps over the inernal NIC.

I've heard good things about them! If you end up getting it and decide you don't like it, you could always sell for a profit. I know I'd be interested! If I could find one for $99, I'd be all over it to hackintosh that puppy.
