Ive been told by a reliable source that there is a new camera to either be released or announced.

Grimey, that's a little harsh, and unnecessary.
Kajuah, this IS the rumor section. If Lamborghini has a website with rumor sections, there may be such rumors floating around.
As for anyone knowing anything, canon generally keeps everything very close to the vest, and most reps dont even know much detail. I remember being told by a 5 year veteran at canon service center, that 5d2 will have 16mp, and 5fps, about 6 months before it was released. he at least was correct back in march that there will be no 5d2 announcements till fall. So speculate away. after all, this is the speculation board. but please play nice.

7th From Germany we hear of a comment at a major dealership, concerning a new camera to be announced -after- PMA.

The 'new' 1D will supposedly be 16MP and full frame.

Whilst most people reserve a degree of skepticism for comments via dealers, it's worth noting that this news lost them a 5D2 sale.

On todays general rumours page we noted a suggestion of a Canon announcement on the 25th. Comments we had last week suggested that it would be Autumn before a new 1D would be seen.

Sounds like Canon was holding back to make sure Nikon didn't one-up them at PMA!

I've always wondered if Canon usually shows up with 2+ versions of their new body, and releases the one that has the least amount of technology they can get away with (e.g. make sure they're on par with Nikon, but hold back as many features as possible, for as long as possible).

It makes sense to announce a new 1D and release it later this year due to a couple of major sporting events next year - The World Cup and Winter Olympics.

canon might have to release the 1d4 well in advance of the winter olympics, so as to iron out any problems that might arise.

they can ill afford another 1d3 focusing quagmire, especially when nikon has been on such a roll and has a new flagship camera out.

What would be the rumored specs of a 500D???

i'm guessing it would find its place between the rebel xs (1000d) and xsi (450d), but those two are already so similar i don't really see a middle ground for a new entry to the rebel line.

canonrumors suggests that it'll be a 450D replacement with incremental changes - slightly greater resolution, articulated screen (to make liveview more useful) and possibly video. The 450D would (like the 400D before it) continue to be sold but at a lower price. This plus the fact that (as mentioned above) Canon already has a product called 500D - a screw-on closeup lens - perhaps make it more likely to be called a 475D.

Me for one. I'd buy one in a flash. Perfect travel camera. Small, discreet, with HD video...

Don't dismiss the bottom end of the market so much. It's a cash cow for most manufacturers. They won't screw this end up (but will happily screw the pros over!)

No offense meant or ...received, but I did read the original post. I suggest you learn to write better :p, cause to me that says you have been told by a reliable source there is a new camera to be released or announced...no question there that I can see, just a statement of insistent fact. Granted this is the rumor section but shouldn't rumors be somewhat backed up if they were said to be? I mean I can't just create a rumor that says Canon and Nikon are going to merge with Casio and Sony.

Anyway my point was to indirectly ask where this reliable source was coming from and why they figure there's going to be a new release.

They just released the big bang of the 5D mark II and the 50D, they're already stressing their manufacturing lines pumping out copies to fulfill the order list for those two cameras, I just don't think its a very plausible case to see a new camera in such a short time.

Granted I'm certain there are more cameras coming (of course) ..it's just so soon. So far in the past 6 months they introduced 5 new lenses, 2 new cams (a crop and a full frame).

I speculate, for the sake of joining the rumor mill, that the 1D series is going to be next (it makes sense, why release another full frame ? They'll lose market from the 5D mark II if they did) due for an upgrade.

CANON HOLDING PRESS CONFERENCE ON MARCH 25 REGARDING EOS LINE IN COPENHAGEN!!!

Canon says they've "saved the best of their spring collection until the 25th"! Canon has already announced all their P&S, copy machines, printers, and medical imaging devices for this quarter.
I'm guessing 90% chance we see a xD or xxD series body. I can't imagine them holding a special event AFTER PMA for anything Rebel or lower (xxxD or xxxxD).
I'm hoping for a mid-range FF camera, something between the 50D & 5D Mk II.

This is not the case. Canon has always, as most other companies, announced new products before PMA or Photokina and then have the new products for display at the show. So they announce what they decide to produce. Although I'm sure they have working prototypes and designs of alternate versions of the actual model they put out and probably the mythic 3D as well that probably will never be put into production until Canon decides to sell more cameras than have very high end expensive pro models.

At least in the US, they officially use letters to designate the various Rebels. E.g. XSi, XTi, XS. I can see where the scam sites would have a field day with a Rebel 500D though.
You order a 500D for $799 and they send you a $70 500D close-up lens! This could get interesting! Maybe they're going to drop the number designation in Europe???
