I'm thinking about getting the 24" x 24" Ezybox Hotshoe softbox, mainly for portable use with a speedlight. After having a look at the lastolite site I noticed they also do a similar softbox for studio strobes (looks very similar but doesn't have the word 'Hotshoe' in the title).

The site also lists ezybox adaptor rings, eg, an Elinchrome ring, which I presume are inteded for use with the non-hotshoe version.

Does anyone who has an ezybox know if the adaptor rings will also work with the hotshoe version, enabling the softbox to be used both with speedlights (using the supplied hotshoe flash ring and bracket) and also with studio strobes (for example, on the D-Lights from Elinchrome).

Anyone out there know the answer to this? I'm curious to know too?

I own the 24"x24" Ezybox hotshoe and bought the Elinchrom speedring. I have used it with both my 580EX speedlite and Elinchrom Dlite-4's, and it works fine. I also bought the optional diffusion panels for the Ezybox and have found them pretty useful too, but expensive.

Just to add one other thing...When I use the 580EX with the Ezybox, I use the ring/bracket that comes with it, and this attaches to the lightstand. When I use the Ezybox with a Dlite-4, I connect the speedring to the Ezybox without the bracket. It attaches to the back of the Ezybox the same way as the ring/bracket that comes with it, and then the speedring attaches to the Dlite-4. I attach the Dlite-4 to the lightstand the same way as always.

Thanks sdipirro - it's difficult to be sure about the fit simply from looking at the pictures on their site, and the speedring doesn't appear to be listed among the available accessories (just for the ezybox non-hotshoe model).

It's good to know that the ezybox can also be used with e*****ome strobes. The softboxes that come with them are difficult to assemble/disassemble. I was wondering if the opening at the back of the ezybox hotshoe might have been too small for the e*****ome speedring

I didn't even know there was such a thing as the non-hotshoe model. The speedring is an Ezybox accessory though. It is specific to the Ezybox and attaches to it the same way as the hotshoe ring/bracket assembly, and the other end, obviously, is compatible with Elinchrom lights and attaches snugly to my Dlite-4's. The Ezybox is a bit expensive, but it really is quick and easy to assemble. Just be careful when you first open that sucker. It pops open with such force that the first time, when I wasn't prepared, it flew up and whacked me in the forehead and left a mark!

That's good to know.

From looking at the lastolite site, it seems there are two ranges of ezybox. Two have the name 'hotshoe' - the 15" and the 24" ones. These are the ones that come with the fitting to take a speedlight. The other range starts with the 24" and includes several other larger ezybox softboxes. These appear to come with the speed ring to match various makes of studio strobes (no mention of the speedlight bracket for these ones). As far as I can see the elinchrome speed ring is sold as part of this range - not the hotshoe range.

I was wondering if there was a difference in the size of the opening at the back between the hotshoe and non-hotshoe ranges. If the speed ring fits yours, then I guess the opening size must be the same. Thanks for your help!
