Thanks Mitch,

Glad to see you're taking a more conservative approach to inputting your links. Made me actually wanna click this time :)

Good stuff here. Very interesting rumor. What do you think about it Mitch? Do you believe this one, from all your knowledge of the 5D, does it have any merit?

Yes, even i can learn the best way to do things :)

Now, if i could only convince everyone in the world to be on my RSS feed, i wouldn't need to post anything over here LOL!

I'm torn, I've heard that Canon rarely if ever adds new features in firmware - it is usually just fixes. But this description of the rush to get the 5D mk ii out makes sense and it would be great if canon follows thru with enhancements.

On the other hand, i don't know enough about the inner workings of the software... maybe it just isn't possible to make the kind of changes we'd like to see. Maybe it would have required more changes on the chip?

I just don't know. I'm trying not to get too excited by this because I'm afraid to get let down and i sure don't want people yelling at canon more than they already do :)

Interesting. I've tried the video on my 5D MKII just once, and that was for a 30 sec clip. After that I haven't even messed with it. Having full manual control might get me more interested in it.

Im just popping my head in to say that i think this is the proper way to make a rumor thread (with concrete evidence and interesting theories) and to commend you for the info and work you're doing. This information is not of particular interest to me, but I liked seeing a decent, normal and serious rumors thread for a change!

Thank you for your kind words. I'm learning something new every day and trying to share with others. It is a good feeling to read your words right before going to bed. I shall rest well. :)

Though the rumors makes sense what doesn't make sense would be Canon adding these enhancements without any form of compensation. Nikon's not making any moves to do these "free".

The more recent rumor on CR makes a lot of sense though. An EOS-based video camera that can use your EF lenses with full or semi-full manual control at a more realistic price point of $8,000.

Just an Oh By The Way as it relates to video production...

Rarely will you let the light dictate aperture. The optimal way to go about things is to choose an aperture that will give you the DOF you want for a given scene then light for that aperture.

Now, most folks walking around with a 5DMkII aren't in a position to dictate how much or how little light they'll have or will use but for those considering the MkII as a legitimate video production tool, it's time to learn how to use flags, scrims, reflectors and a light meter to get a handle on things.

Just throwing it out there...

I couldn't agree more. I hate that the rumors thread is basically a place where people talk about what they would like to see in the future, post the same annoying pictures of spoofed cameras over and over, or just flat out guess when the next camera is coming out and what it will feature. None of those are rumors.

Would LOVE it if posts like this made up the rumors thread :D
