Little Bag; Big Camera

Hi there!

I am currently using a Lowepro Vertex 200 AW as my normal bag. Fantastic bag I must add. But theres are times that I only need a bag for the camera itself and maybe one lens or a flash so I can leave the rest in my Vertex in the car.

Can anybody suggest what is the smallest bag maybe a slingshot style that I can get away with fitting a 5D Mk II + 16-35 II + Grip and a 580EX II?

Domke F-3x is maybe a bit bigger than you'd need, but is still a nice small bag.

I have also the Vertex 200 and I love it, but sometimes it was to big for casual use. So I was also looking for a smaller bag.
I wanted again a backpack and I ended up with a dakine mission photo.
It's superb! It's nice and it is alot smaller if you compare it with the Vertex.
So if you still want a backpack, maybe you could consider a daking mission photo :-).

What about a belt pack? Inverse from Lowepro or something from Thinktank?

Crumpler 5MDH should work. I can't recall the height though but I tested it with my 20D + grip and it fitted fine if I threw in only a lens a 430EX with some room.

I have the Vertex 200 as well and I do agree that it at times is too big to carry around. If you like the sling design, I suggest the Kata T-214. It can carry your camera, a flash, and an extra lens as reviewed here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=566336&highlight=KATA+T-214). I'm going to use it to accompany my carry on and do some hiking three weeks from now.
I love the design, does not protrude as much, and is well made.

I also have the Lowepro Microtrekker 200 which is a slightly bigger bag and will allow you to carry additional accessories including a tri-pod.

Between the two however, I love the sleekness and compact size of the T-214.

I have a Tamrac Expedition 5X, and the only other bag that I thought was up to it was the Vertex. And I have the same problem with a smaller bag for quick outings or in the evening.

Here's what worked for my 5D2 with a 24-105L lens and a 580 II: the Lowepro Classified 140. I don't know if it's wide enough for a standard DSLR with grip. I would call B&H to find out or check your local dealer. For me, it's fantastic.

It doesn't look like a camera bag and there are no bright logos. Rather stealthy. Bulletproof construction. Full waterproof cover. It's deep enough that the above body and lens will fit even with the hood on and extended. My 5D2 takes up the center and left side, but I can still fit in the light on the right. It'll hold another lens instead in that position. Empty, it'll crush down inside your suitcase.

I happened to have a shot of the 160. If the body doesn't fit the 140, it will in the 160. But the bag's alot bigger.

The biggest advantage to me is that I can store my 40D with 70-200 attached in the 160, ready to shoot. But, it is about the largest size I'd be comfortable hanging from my shoulders. (I'm 5'6.5")

Yeah, ThinkTank and Tamrac already have bags like this. Tamrac's is reasonably priced and as usual TT is overpriced but they just came out with it. The UD35.

So...I made my own and it works awesome!

Right. Just had a browse. I am looking for something pretty small (5DII gripped as if!) so I am wondering if anyone seen or used a Stealth Reporter D100AW? Would a gripped/pro body + 24-70 sized lens fit?

I Googled and I know a pro body would fit. Just not sure if it is deep enough for the lens.

6.1" depth, 9.8" Width both interior. You can probably put it in latterly, but not sure about up and down.

I don't think the 100 is deep enough. Perhaps not the 200 either. Then the 300 is a pretty bulky bag.

Just measure the length of your body with the lens attached. The interior depth measurements on the B&H sites are pretty accurate. If the depth is sufficient, there you go. The Stealth series in person are very nice bags. But if you want to carry the camera vertically, I still think the Classified is a better bag, as it's made for that. Just call one of the shops near you to see if a body and grip will fit.
